Privacy policy
Silkbreath collects as little as it can. Without an account, nothing about you leaves your browser. With an account, we store your email address and the things you choose to save, so they can follow you to other devices.
What you search for stays on your device
The search on Silkbreath runs inside your own browser. The words you type, including any health concern, are matched against the library on your device. They are not sent to us or to anyone else, and we cannot see them.
The iPhone and Mac app
The Silkbreath app for iPhone and Mac carries the library inside it and works without a connection. It has no accounts. Your routines, favourites, the routines you keep from others and your settings stay on your device, and deleting the app removes them. The app goes online only when you open a routine or a profile someone shared, or search for people: it then asks our database for that routine or profile, and sends nothing about you.
Using Silkbreath without an account
You can use everything without signing in. Your routines, the lessons you mark as learned, your practice log and your settings are kept in your own browser's storage on your device. They are never sent to us.
Sending a routine to someone
There are two ways to send a routine. The first needs no account: when you send a copy, the routine, your name if you add it and any note you write are packed into the link itself (and into the square code made from it). Nothing about it is stored by us, and the part of the link that carries it is not sent to our server when someone opens it. Anyone who has the link can read what is in it, so please do not put names, diagnoses or other personal details in the note.
The second way is from a profile, described next: the routine is then kept on our server so that it can stay up to date.
Profiles, and routines you share from one
If you have an account, you can choose to make a profile. It holds a name to show, a handle (the address of your profile), and, if you like, what you do and a few words about yourself. You choose who can see it. Public: anyone can find it by its name, handle or what you do, and open it. Unlisted: it is not found in search, and only people who have its address can open it. Private: only you can see it, and nobody can follow it. A new profile starts unlisted. You can change this, or delete your profile, at any time.
From a profile you can share a routine by a link that stays up to date, or show it on your profile. The routine and any note you add are then stored with your profile, and anyone with the link (or, for routines on your profile, anyone who can see your profile) can open them, with your name. A routine you have sent by link still opens while your profile is private. When you change the routine, they see the change. Stopping sharing it, deleting the routine, deleting your profile or deleting your account makes it stop opening for everyone. Please do not put anyone's name, health details or other personal information in a profile, a routine's name or its note.
When you keep a routine someone else shares, it is kept on your device, and in your account if you are signed in, so that it can be brought up to date. The person who shared it is not told who kept it.
If you are signed in, you can follow a profile. Only you can see whom you follow. A profile shows how many people follow it, never who they are.
The copy kept on your device
So that Silkbreath opens without a connection, your browser keeps a copy of the site's own files (pages, pictures, fonts and scripts) on your device. It holds nothing about you. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.
What we store when you create an account
- Your email address, so you can sign in.
- Your password, if you sign in with email. It is stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider, and we can never read it.
- Your name and profile picture address, if you sign in with Google. Google shares these as part of your basic profile. We use only the first letter of your name, for the round account button.
- What you choose to save: your routines (their names, the exercises in them, and the time and level you set), routines you keep from other people, the lessons you mark as learned, and your practice log (the date, what you practised, the minutes, and any notes you type).
- If you make a profile: what you put on it, the routines you share from it with their notes, and the profiles you follow.
We do not collect anything else. There are no advertising cookies, no analytics or tracking scripts, and we never sell your information or share it with anyone. The only things others can see are those you choose to put on a profile or share from it. The site's fonts and code are served by Silkbreath itself, so opening a page does not contact any other company.
How we use it
Only to sign you in and to keep your saved things in step across your devices. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or any other purpose, and we do not contact you except for messages you ask for, such as confirming your email or resetting your password.
Signing in with Google
When you choose "Continue with Google", Silkbreath asks Google only for your basic profile: your email address, name and profile picture. It does not ask for access to your Gmail, Calendar, Drive or any other Google data. Silkbreath's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Who processes your information
- Supabase runs our sign-in and database. Your account and your saved things are stored in its data centre in Tokyo, Japan.
- Netlify hosts the website. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and protect the service.
- Google handles the sign-in screen if you choose "Continue with Google".
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your account and saved things for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. That permanently deletes your account, your profile and the routines you share from it, whom you follow, your synced routines, your learned lessons and your practice log straight away. Signing out also clears them from that device. You can download or clear what is kept on your device from the Me page, and you can ask us to delete your data by email.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to how it is used. You can do most of this yourself on the Me and Account pages. For anything else, email us and we will help.
Browser storage
Silkbreath uses your browser's storage for your routines, progress, settings and, if you sign in, your sign-in session. These are needed for the site to work. They are not used for advertising or tracking.
Children
Silkbreath is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
Where we are
Silkbreath is run from Vietnam. If you use it from another country, your account information is sent to the services listed above to be stored.
