Accessibility
Silkbreath should be usable by as many people as possible, whatever their age, device or ability. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we have done
- Keyboard: every page, button and control can be reached and used with a keyboard. Cards can be added to a routine with the plus button, and a routine can be reordered with the arrow keys on each card's handle, so nothing depends on dragging.
- Screen readers: pages use headings, landmarks and labels. Changes such as search results, added exercises and the current exercise in a session are announced.
- Words as well as pictures: every exercise has written steps, so the animated figure is never the only way to understand a movement. In the left and right figure style, the sides are marked with letters as well as colour.
- Motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, figures do not start moving on their own. Every figure has a pause button and speed control.
- Seeing: text and controls are designed to meet contrast guidelines in both the light and the dark appearance. The site follows your device's appearance and text size, and works when zoomed to 200%.
- Touch: buttons are large enough to tap comfortably, and the layout adapts from phones to wide screens.
- Sound: the bell and spoken prompts are optional, and nothing is conveyed by sound alone.
- Plain language: instructions are written in short, everyday sentences.
Known limits
- The animated figures cannot be described movement by movement to a screen reader. The written steps carry the same instructions.
- The older Qigong and Tai Chi lessons include a few diagrams that are described only briefly.
- Spoken prompts use your device's own voice, and its quality varies between devices.
Tell us what is not working
If you find a barrier, or need something in a different format, write to rvfoundry@gmail.com. Tell us the page and what happened, and the device and browser if you can. We aim to reply within five working days and to fix problems as quickly as we can.
How we check
We test with a keyboard, with screen readers, at different zoom levels and screen sizes, in both appearances, and with reduced motion switched on. This statement is reviewed whenever the site changes in a significant way.
